Search Engine Optimisation
Search engine optimisation is
designing a Web site so that search engines easily find
the pages and index them.
The goal is to have your page
be in the top 10 results of a search.
optimisation includes the choice
of words used in the text paragraphs and the placement
of those words on the page, both visible and hidden
inside meta tags.
Search engines use different
criteria for indexing, and those criteria change constantly.
Thus, it becomes increasingly difficult to satisfy every
one equally.
Our expert skills in search
engine optimisation mean you have the best chance possible
to achieve that Holy Grail of the net – - Top 10 ranking
in Google, MSN, Yahoo or one of the others
Remember though – - and
this is a vital warning:
Search engine optimisation needs
to be put very clearly into perspective.
For instance, let's say you're
a Queensland-based electrician. If I search (Jan 2006)
for "Queensland electrician" in the largest
Search Engine, Google, (AND I remember to check 'Australian
Pages Only') I'll get 47,300 results.
To make Top 10 you'd spend a
fortune having your site optimised. And it's not a once-off
cost either. It required constant monitoring and fine-tuning.
You'd have to overcome odds
of 4370-to-1 to make Top 10.
For "Gold Coast Electrician"
it gets a little better – only 2700-to-1 odds
to beat.
If we choose "Carrara electrician"
it gets even better – we're down to an easy 11-to-1
chance, while searching for "Carrara Electrical
Specialist Contractors" (name changed to protect
the innocent!) we arrive at a very doable 5-to-1 chance,
with the website already in the Top 10.
But it begs the question: If
they already know your name and suburb, why do they
need to use a Search Engine? Why not just use Yellow
Pages? Or more to the point, if "Carrara Electrical
Specialist Contractors" makes it in the Top 10
without any optimisation, why bother anyway?
Even so, there are many occasions
when Search Engine Optimisation is
a viable option, and we offer the best possible results
accordingly.

Pricing
Remember the old "How long
is a piece of string?" It never was more appropriate
than for Search Engine Optimisation. It completely depends
on how much work we do.
For an indication of the kind
of money involved, a premium web site would normally
require initial work commencing at around $6,000 up
front and $4,000 per month after that.
For smaller sites we'd be looking
at around $900 initially and from $180 per month for
ongoing work. There's no way to fix a price without
seeing what's required.
A good example is last month
when we were asked for a price to optimise an existing
web site. The original web site developer had already
paid someone in the USA to do a basic job on the site,
and what remained was simply for us to "fine tune"
the web site, which cost just $480. And now the site
needs about $100 work per month for maintenance.
